Coming from the DSLR and Cinema Camera world, I rolled my eyes at the mention of camcorders. That was me then - before my week spent with the Canon XA50, rented from Lensrentals.com. I managed to squeeze in as much filming as possible with the XA50 before I had to return it. The end goal is to find a camera that feels like “home” in my hands to film documentaries. Here’s some test footage.
I fully intended to also rent the C100 Mark II and possibly the C200 to test them both. But now that I’ve shot with the XA50 … not sure if I need to try out more cameras. A hand in a glove … that was my experience with the XA50. It’s not a perfect documentary camera, but it came quite close … for me. The key word is “for me.”
