"Italianamerican," a Family Documentary by Martin Scorsese

"Serendipity" is my favorite word in the English language.

I was reading the Hugo Movie Companion book by Brian Selznick (a signed copy bought from one of my favorite indie bookstores R. J. Julia Booksellers) when I stumbled upon something unexpected.

At the back of the book under the "Biographies" section, on page 252, I found out that Martin Scorsese - as a young filmmaker - made a family documentary in 1974. In it, he interviewed his parents, Catherine and Charles Scorsese about their life together in America.

The Scorsese family documentary got my attention because for years now, I have been thinking about making a documentary about my own parents and their incredible, brave journey from Viet-Nam to America.

And so I Googled vigorously for a few minutes and found the Scorsese documentary Italianamerican on YouTube.

The film is in five separate clips below.

If you're interested in watching Scorsese's first feature film Who's That Knocking At My Door?, it's available on Amazon.

And if you haven't seen Hugo yet, you must add it to your Netflix queue. The storytelling is at its magical best and the cinematography is stunningly beautiful!

I'm totally inspired. Thank you Mr. Scorsese.
